Job Description
Gallery Director Job Responsibilities:
1. Exercise good computer and cell phone skills with open and diplomatic
communication with the Board members and artist members
2. Plan schedules for yearlong exhibitions in 2 members galleries and for Feature
gallery rentals
3. Create exhibition themes that satisfy the Pro members and give opportunities to
Friends of HDA in coordination with the gallery committee.
4. Communicate with artists renting the Feature gallery re their fee and contract
5. Plan a prospectus for each exhibition for a yearly schedule
6. Create timelines for all the exhibitions including submission, notification,
intake, installation and deinstallation dates for each exhibition in both galleries.
7. Curate entries from submission photos to assure a comprehensive exhibition
and determine how many entries will fill the galleries based on size and
quantity.
8. Share specific duties with committee members to help with intake and
installation
9. Communicate with the admin Assistant regarding dates and information for
exhibitions and openings, call for art and entry forms, and submissions with
photos of work that go onto the Google spread sheet
10. Communicate with the admin assistant to post info on the website.
11. Have access to accurate and current list of members for mailings of information
when needed (be able to navigate Google docs)
12. Create, chair, and meet with a gallery committee to share and create ideas and
consensus on a timely basis.
13. Attend bi-weekly Board meetings, monthly general meetings, and gallery
openings.
14. Have tools and equipment ready for installation and deinstallation of exhibits.
15. Plan repairs of walls and pedestals for future exhibitions at deinstallation.
About Our Workplace: The Hi-Desert Artists Community Center hosts three (3) art
galleries and a gallery shop. The feature gallery (named the Shafer Gallery) is a
space for rent for self-curated, solo or small group exhibitions. Two galleries are
dedicated member galleries displaying members’ works of art. The gallery shop
sells artisan works produced by artist members. The Center’s operational funding
comes from dues paid yearly by artist members and fees generated by classes and
workshops.
This Art Center is the product of thousands of volunteer hours of work and time
invested by the members. It is a high-visibility work environment that supports
community self-expression, many art mediums and a diverse artist population.
