Description **This recruitment will be used to fill vacancies at Black Mountain Middle School/Mesa Verde Middle School (Split-Shift) and Design 39 Campus, Adobe Bluffs Elementary, Garden Road Elementary, and Poway High. Please note: The hours listed below are the previous shift schedule, which may be subject to change at the discretion of the site.
- Design 39 Campus - 12:30pm - 9:00pm
- Adobe Bluffs - 2:30pm - 11:00pm
- Garden Road - 1:30pm - 10:00pm
- Poway High - 3:00pm - 11:30pm
*This position is 40hrs/week, 12 months/year, and is Benefits Eligible. * BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, perform a variety of cleaning and custodial maintenance duties in assigned buildings and facilities.
Examples of Duties REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: Clean and sanitize restrooms, showers, locker rooms, shops, cafeterias, gymnasiums, offices and related facilities; dust and polish furniture and woodwork; empty waste receptacles; spot mop spills; remove gum, debris and graffiti as needed.
E Sweep, scrub, mop, strip, wax and polish floors; vacuum rugs and carpets in classrooms, offices, workshops and other work areas; spot clean and shampoo carpets.
E Pick up paper and other debris from school grounds, walkways and areas adjacent to school facilities; remove and dispose of banners and posters; sweep concrete surfaces adjacent to school building.
E Clean and disinfect drinking fountains and restroom facilities including sinks, toilets and urinals; fill dispensers with towels, soap, toilet paper and other items; clean mirrors, tile and windows; unclog drains and toilets.
E Operate custodial equipment such as vacuums, mops, small hand and power tools, buffer/scrubber machines, steam cleaners and other equipment as assigned.
E Move and arrange furniture and equipment; prepare classrooms and multi-purpose rooms for special events or meetings; set-up and assemble chairs, tables and other furniture and equipment for special events and activities; clean up furniture, equipment and debris following these events.
E Perform various custodial activities including replacing light bulbs and tubes, cleaning chalkboards and erasers and emptying pencil sharpeners.
E Raise and lower flags; unlock and lock doors and gates, assuring facilities are properly secured; set alarms as appropriate.
E Participate in thorough cleaning and restoration of a school plant during school vacation periods.
E Maintain routine records related to assigned activities.
E Communicate with District personnel to exchange information and resolve issues or concerns.
Perform minor maintenance and repair activities.
Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above.
Supplemental Information KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF:
Modern cleaning methods including basic methods of cleaning floors, carpets, furniture, walls and fixtures.
Appropriate safety precautions and procedures.
Operation of assigned custodial equipment.
ABILITY TO:
Learn the schedules, procedures and use of equipment and supplies used in custodial work.
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
Maintain buildings and adjacent grounds areas in a clean, orderly and secure condition.

Work cooperatively with others.
Operate assigned custodial equipment.
Observe health and safety regulations.
Learn basic record-keeping techniques.
WORKING CONDITIONS: ENVIRONMENT:
Indoor and outdoor work environment.
Regular exposure to fumes, dust and odors.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of custodial equipment.
Walking or standing for extended periods of time.
Seeing to perform custodial duties.
Lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling moderately heavy objects (50 lbs) as assigned by position.
Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching.
Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally.
Climbing ladders and working from heights.
HAZARDS:
Exposure to cleaning agents and chemicals.
Working on ladders.
Potential for contact with body fluids.
Working around and with machinery with moving parts.
